Class Description
This 40-hour course will introduce the basic skills and information necessary to effectively operate as an officer engaged in drug enforcement. The students will be taught how to initiate, pursue and successfully conclude drug investigations. This includes dealing with confidential informants, handling of covert operations, sources of information, resources available, drug identification and symptomology, pertinent laws, surveillance operations, interviews and officer safety.
The class is open to all federal, state and/or local officers who are currently assigned to drug enforcement or who have been nominated to work drug enforcement within the next year. Priority will be given to applicants with less than one-year experience working narcotics.
Applicants with more experience will be considered on the recommendation of a supervisor. Any officer who has attended a previous RMHIDTA Basic Drug Investigator School within the last five years will not be eligible to attend.
