Western Union is one of the world’s largest money service businesses. Its Financial Intelligence Unit is equipped to prevent, deter, detect, and report high risk criminal activity and prioritizes partnerships with law enforcement.

In this session, the Western Union Financial Intelligence Unit will present their intelligence capabilities and global threat picture on fentanyl, precursors, and related equipment. Western Union has illuminated criminal typologies which they will walk through while highlighting best practices for working with money service businesses and financial data. The discussions are aimed at enhancing investigators’ and analysts’ skillset in uncovering evidence and enhancing investigations into fentanyl trafficking and beyond.

There will also be a 2hr informational session on App Based Money Transfer and Cryptocurrency:

2 Hour Session:

45 mins: Digital Financial Services i.e. Cash App, PayPal, Zelle, etc.

30 mins: Cryptocurrency ( ATMs, hardware wallets, off network transfers, stable coins)
