Class Description

Course Overview:

This three-day live online course teaches the techniques and skills needed to record surveillance video with camcorders, mirrorless cameras, and other equipment. Students will be exposed to state-ofthe-art covert video surveillance systems and see how to use them in the field. The course will focus on both camcorder surveillance and covert video recording systems. It will include how to plan a successful video surveillance operation and the situational awareness necessary for safe surveillance.

An in-depth night surveillance session will show participants multiple techniques for recording surveillance video in low-light and no-light conditions. Participants will learn how to link the audio from covert audio transmitters to their camcorders. Participants will practice using professional microphones with camcorders to record confessions, eyewitness accounts, and victim statements. EXERCISES AND NEEDED EQUIPMENT This live online class includes hands-on exercises! Following the firstand second-days’ instruction, exercises can be recorded with any available video camera. Your cell phone is fine; an agency-owned camcorder, mirrorless/DSLR camera, or recording optics will improve the experience. Exercise videos are uploaded to a provided folder and reviewed on the second and third mornings.
