Class Description
This training course is designed to provide investigators with the skills necessary to obtain information regarding narcotics investigations through interviewing and interrogation in an ethical and legal framework. Investigators will learn the difference between interviews and interrogations, methods for establishing rapport, how to develop case-specific themes, proper room setup, the difference between an admission and a confession, and techniques to ensure the interview is conducted in a legal manner. Numerous case studies will be discussed as well as audio/video of past interrogations to help demonstrate the techniques presented.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Identify the difference between interviews and interrogations and knowing when each is appropriate
- Identify a case and support for the case
- Explain how to build rapport and themes
- Conduct proper room set up and know the techniques to overcome Miranda Warnings
- Avoid common pitfalls
- Overcome non-cooperative suspects
- Identify non-verbal deceptive behavior
- Engage in Active Listening
- Obtain information for proactive investigations
- Conduct interviews regarding violent, drug-related offenses
